I Corinthians 8:1-3 (God's Word Translation)
Now, concerning food offered to false gods: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes people arrogant, but love builds them up. Those who think they know something still have a lot to learn. But if they love God, they are known by God.
There is a lot to learn from this chapter of the Bible. It is primarily about food that had been sacrificed to idols and about how Christians treated each other over the matter. I chose these particular verses and translation, though, as a reminder about pride. For those times when I think I have things figured out, I want to remember that I "still have a lot to learn" and that my priority should be loving God.
"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV
ReplyDeleteA little girl had me a bit distracted at the end of August, so I am going to keep working on my verse from last time...

For those of you who don't know Erin personally, she just welcomed baby Grace Elizabeth into her family! Congratulations!!
DeleteSuch a great verse to be working on as you transition to a family of four! ♥️
DeleteErin, I am so glad to see that someone else is working on a past verse. Our Galatians summer study with its verses was great, but when I go back to my Ephesians passage I was trying to memorize, I see that I need to go back first to the last 4 verses before I can move on:
ReplyDelete"And He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment - to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. In Him we were chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him Who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory." Ephesians 1:9-12
James 5:13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this.

Eph 4:21-22, "-- assuming you have learned about him and have been taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires."

At different seasons in my life I suffer from situational insomnia which stems from anxiety. This verse and a handful of others are great for me to repeatedly say while anxiety attacks. God is greater and will protect me.
I'm still working on my verses from last month. As we enter the 7th week of Ben on crutches I really need to keep this verse in my heart. (Emphasis mine.)
ReplyDelete"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. IT IS NOT IRRITABLE, AND IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF BEING WRONGED. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,”
