Do you always memorize your verse in the same translation? I usually memorize in NIV or ESV, but as I'm studying and meditating on my verse I love to read it in lots of different translations. It's amazing how many different nuances and meanings you can get from the same verse just by changing one word or one piece of punctuation.
My verse for this time is II Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near." Philippians 4:4-5, NIV
ReplyDeleteErin this verse was on my heart this week as I studied the fruit of the Spirit, Gentleness.
Delete"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." 1 Timothy 1:15 (ESV)
ReplyDelete“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
ReplyDeleteEphesians 5:15-17 ESV
I must actively take advantage of the opportunity to do good and apply God's Word as guidelines for my life.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
ReplyDeletePsalm 90:14 ESV
I am a bit late this week thanks to back to school distractions, therefore I chose this verse: 'Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.' Proverbs 26:6 (ESV)
ReplyDeleteMy final two verses from Galatians study:
ReplyDelete"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:22
"Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2
Catching up! Eph 4:19-20, "They have become callous, and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. But that is not the way you learned in Christ!"
ReplyDelete“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
ReplyDeleteEphesians 4:2 NIV
Count it all joy, my brothers (sisters!), when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. James 1:2-3
ReplyDeleteWe just finished Beth Moore's study of James, and this was definitely a key verse in the study. I realized how much the trials I face are within myself -- setting priorities and how I use my time.
Deb, I liked your comments about using different translations. I like reading from the New Living Translation and The Message just to get that insight you talked about.
I've been thinking about this verse a lot lately, and wanted to memorize a different translation than I memorized growing up.
ReplyDelete"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
