I was looking back over my last few verses and realized that I don't have them committed to memory yet. So, as I remind myself, let me encourage you, too: don't neglect God's Word in this upcoming busy holiday season. You are on verse 19 out of 24! What an accomplishment! Don't give up! Press on, friends!
Today's sermon was on Ecclesiastes. [It was really interesting. You can watch it here if you're interested.] A lot of the book is about how everything here on earth is pointless (my loose translation). BUT we can rise about the seeming insignificance of all the day-to-day stuff. At the end of the book the author gives us the key for living our lives down here:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV
"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."
I loved today's sermon. I thought about choosing a verse from it too. Instead I'm starting a devotional tomorrow for the next 6 weeks and this is the verse we are memorizing this week for it...
ReplyDelete“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Romans 12:2 ESV
Continuing with Ephesians 4:
ReplyDelete"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice." Ephesians 4:31, NIV
I love that, Deb - I might use that in the future! My verse for this week is...
ReplyDelete"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21 (ESV)
Jeremiah 9:23-24
ReplyDelete"This is what the LORD says: 'Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom, or the strong man boast of his strength, or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, Who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the LORD."
Catching up.. Eph 4:28-29, "Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
ReplyDeleteAnd let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body, and be thankful.
ReplyDeleteColossians 3:15
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
ReplyDeleteGalatians 1:10 NIV
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33
ReplyDeletePsalm 8:4
ReplyDeleteWhat is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
I decided to do the same verse my children have: Matthew 5:16 'In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in Heaven.' (ESV)
ReplyDelete“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
ReplyDeletePhilippians 2:3-4 ESV
