Verse 2

So, how did the first verse go?  Is it solidly locked away in your mind and heart?  Make sure you keep reviewing the old one(s) as we move forward.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for peer pressure, but knowing that there were 20 other women out there memorizing with me gave me great encouragement.  :)
Also, several of you told me your reason for the verse you chose.  If you feel comfortable sharing that in your comment, please feel free!

My verse this time is 2 Corinthians 10:5  NIV "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

I chose this verse because when I let my mind wander and worry, I forget that my life is in God's hands.  I hope this verse will remind me to keep my imagination in check by "taking captive every thought".

  1. I am loving this - thanks for doing this Deb!
I am hoping this verse will help remind me that with every decision, I need to pray, ask Him and then just make the decision and TRUST HIM no matter the outcome.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5-8‬ ESV)

  2. "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (1 Peter 3:15, NIV)

Recently God has really deepened a couple friendships I have with moms who aren't believers. I am praying that He will help me be prepared (it starts with my heart, as the first part of this verse indicates) and that He will provide opportunities to build spiritual connections with these women.

  3. Phillipians 4:6-7 "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (ESV)
I have had trouble with lots on anxiety lately. I am hoping this verse will remind me that God has everything under control and I don't need to.

  4. Colossians 3:12-13 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."
Many years ago, a friend and I chose Col 3:17 as the guiding principle for the business we were starting. I just want to learn the whole passage Col 3:12-17, so I have broken it down into smaller pieces to work on for Feb and March.

  5. 2 Corinthians 4:18 "as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
I am hoping this verse will assist with the desires of my heart and assist me in recognizing God has a plan for every stage of my life

  6. "Guide me in truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." Psalm 25:5

I chose this verse because I needed a reminder that God could and would sustain e throughout the days! This challenge has been so good for me...I had myself convinced there was no room in my brain for memorization :)

  7. "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing." Luke 12:22-23

These verses were on my heart this morning during quiet time. The author shared: "An eager, anxious pursuit of the things of this world - even necessary things - is unbecoming to the disciples of Christ. Our craving for the beauty of holiness is inversely proportional to our hunger for the luxuries of this world."

  8. "…with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace." Ephesians 4:2-3 ESV

I've been thinking a lot about evangelism and sharing my faith this year as I'm reading, "Get Real" by John Leonard. My goal for the year is to memorize Ephesians 4, as I seek to grow and "speak the truth in love" v15.

  9. Finally whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

I need to be focusing on my thoughts and run them through this grid so I can honor God in everything,

  10. "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." -James 5:16, ESV

This is a good reminder the importance of confession and how it impacts our prayer life.
